It's soccer mommy so I had to buy it. Sophie's sound is fuller than ever with the band behind her, but she's kept the catchiness and magnetic storytelling of her earlier work. And given how authentic her recordings are, they translate wonderfully to a live setting.
Favorite track: Benadryl Dreams.
Soccer Mommy is the indie bedroom pop project of Sophie Allison. On bandcamp she refers to her music as "chill but kinda sad" which is an apt but reductive version of the personal, mournful collection of tunes Allison has been putting online since 2015. Allison has pushed back on the "sad girl" descriptor in the past year, directing listeners to 2017's Collection to highlight the progression from mopey lo-fi stories into the exciting full band project she now fronts.

This purchase was triggered by the release of Phoebe Bridgers EP "Copycat Killer", which is absolutely fantastic. At the same time, I discovered that "Punisher" was on my wishlist since its release - that's five months now. Shame on me, because it's no less brilliant. Several well-known names appear on the list of credits - like Nate Walcott and Conor Oberst ("Bright Eyes"), as well as Rob Moose and Christian Lee Hutson. Sven B. Schreiber

Indie-rock songs metamorphose into wistful, heart-wrenching ballads, amplifying the haunting majesty of her voice… to which all I can add is 'immense'…"
